Askeroso Getxo Sound 2005-2015

¿Qué pasaría si al Getxo Sound le metes cantidades industriales de experimentación y mucha mala hostia?

Por primera vez os presentamos la discografía completa y masterizada de La Grieta, grupo formado en Getxo por Iñigo Eguillor y Mattin allá por el 2005. El germen de este grupo surge en Inte Domine (1992-1997) banda en la cual Mattin e Iñigo fueron miembros. Inte Domine siguió la estela del Getxo Sound con un sonido cercano al Inquilino Comunista, Lord Sickness, Los Clavos o Los Nadie. Las influencias diez años después se complementan con Circle X, Y Pants, Pierre Henry, el ruido y la improvisación de Japón y Nueva Zelanda o la computadora de Mego. Y por supuesto, la Velvet Underground.

Getxo es un lugar de contrastes, zonas adineradas con playa conviviendo con otras zonas combativas y, por tanto, con sus inevitables contradicciones internas, como una pequeña California pero penetrada en aquellos momentos por el conflicto vasco, la desindustrialización, la ola neoliberal y una naciente y boyante escena musical. En los últimos años, Getxo se promociona cada vez más como un lugar de ocio y turismo, un lugar donde las apariencias y el qué dirán importan, donde la felicidad hay que mostrarla y la desafección esconderla, generando frustración, desquicio e impotencia para los que no encajan con esta imagen de sociedad escaparate. La Grieta utiliza estas entrañas negativas como inspiración.

Entre 2006 y 2008 al grupo se une Josetxo Anitua (Cancer Moon) pasando a llamarse Josetxo Grieta, hasta que éste decidió poner fin a su vida en 2008, lo que marca claramente un antes y un después en el grupo. Hermana Hostia, el primer disco grabado en 2005, tiene una frescura juvenil directa y vehemente, mientras que Decisión está completamente marcado por la tragedia de Josetxo y es mucho más espeso y obstinado pero también más experimental y maduro. En 2013 La Grieta vuelve a procesar en el single Último polvo otra muerte, la de Carlos Artiach, padre de Mattin y padrastro de Txema Solano que también participa en la grabación al contrabajo.

Por último, presentamos 2015, EP inédito grabado en 2015 surgido de una colaboración con miembros de Gringo (Pablo Jaén y Txumi). Se trata de un homenaje al gran músico de Guadalupe Gerard Lockel, que también cuenta con el saxo de Jean-Luc Guionnet.

La Grieta hace canciones destartaladas y ruidosas para expresar una realidad desquiciada que muchas veces nos golpea con momentos difíciles de procesar. Post-punk oscuro hasta la saciedad. Con suciedad. Como la propia sociedad.

Zer gertatuko litzateke Getxo Sound delakoari muturreko esperimentazioa eta kriston osti txarra txertatzen badizkiogu?

La Grietaren diskografia osorik eta masterizaturik aurkezten dizuegu lehenengo aldiz. Getxon 2005.urtean Iñigo Eguillorek eta Mattinek sortutako taldea, hain zuzen. Talde honen hazia Inte Domine izan zen (1992-1997), Mattin eta Iñigo ere kide izan zituela. Inte Dominek Getxo Sound-aren arrastoa nolabait jarraitu zuen, El Inquilino Comunista, Lord Sickness, Los Clavos edo Los Nadie-ren soinuarekin parekotasuna izanik. Hamar urte geroago, taldearen eraginak Circle X, Y Pants, Pierre Henry, Japonia eta Zelanda Berriko zarata eta inprobisazioarekin, edota Mego ordenagailuarekin osatu egin ziren. Eta noski, baita The Velvet Underground-ekin ere.

Getxo kontrasteen tokia dela esan daiteke. Eremu dirudunak eta hondartza, beste zonalde borrokalariago batzuekin elkarbizitzan. Eta beraz, bere barne kontraesan saihestezinak ere baditu. Kalifornia txiki batekin alderatu daiteke, beti ere, garai hartako testuingurua kontuan hartuz: izan ere, euskal gatazka, desindustrializazioa eta olatu neoliberalaren itzalpean sortzen ari baitzen bertoko eszena musikala. Azken urteotan, aisialdi eta turismorako destino moduan sustatzen ari da Getxo. Disko hau aurrekoa baino askoz dentsoa eta setatsuagoa da, baina baita heldu eta esperimentalagoa ere. 2013an, La Grietak beste heriotz bat prozesatzen du Último Polvo singlean: Carlos Artiach-ena. Mattinen aita eta grabaketan kontrabaxuarekin parte hartzen duen Txema Solanoren aitaorde izandakoa.

Azkenik, 2015 ere aurkezten dizuegu: 2015ean grabatutako EP argitaragabea, Gringoko bi kideekin (Pablo Jaén eta Txumi) izandako lankidetzatik sortua. Gerard Lockel Guadalupeko musikari handiari omenaldia da eta Jean-Luc Guionnet-ek ere hartzen du parte bere saxoarekin.

La Grieta-k abesti zaratatsu eta kalamastrak sortzen ditu, askotan prozesatzeko zailak diren uneekin kolpatzen gaituen errealitate kamutsa adieraziz. Zulorik zakarrena baino ilunagoa den Post Punk-a, zikintasunez zipriztindua. Gizartea bera bezala.

What would happen if you stick ridiculous amounts of experimentation and lots of fucked-up rage in Getxo Sound?

For the first time we present to you the complete mastered discography of La Grieta, a band formed by Iñigo Eguillor and Mattin in Getxo back in 2005.
La Grieta’s origins are found in Inte Domine (1992-1997) the first band Mattin and Iñigo had along with Pablo Jaén and Javier Corral (today the latter three play together in Gringo). Inte Domine followed the footsteps of what was known as Getxo Sound, influenced by local bands like El Inquilino Comunista, Lord Sickness, Los Clavos or Los Nadie.

While Getxo Sound was influenced by bands like Sonic Youth, Pixies, Joy Division, Pavement and Cancer Moon, the influences of La Grieta expands to Circle X, Y Pants, Pierre Henry, filtered through Japanese and New Zealand noise and improvisation, and the computer music of Mego. But like in Getxo Sound, The Velvet Underground is a crucial starting point (the track Hermana Hostia could well be an interpretation of Sister Ray made by Sachiko M).

Getxo is a town of contrasts, wealthy beach areas living alongside with other more combative zones, and therefore has inevitable internal contradictions. It’s like a small California but penetrated in those times by the Basque conflict, deindustrialization, the neoliberal wave and a rising and thriving music scene.
In the last years Getxo has been increasingly promoting itself as a place for leisure and tourism, a place where appearances and what people say matter. This turns it into a town where you have to display happiness and hide disaffection, generating frustration, malaise and impotence in those who don’t fit in this image of society as a showcase. La Grieta uses these negative insides as a source of inspiration.

Between 2006 and 2008 Josetxo Anitua (Cancer Moon) joined the band becoming Josetxo Grieta, until he decided to put an end to his life on April 23 2008. This deeply marked a turning point in La Grieta’s discography. While Hermana Hostia -the first album recorded in 2005- contains a blunt and burning energy, the second album Decisión is greatly shaped by Josetxo’s tragedy being much more dense and obstinate but also more experimental and mature. In 2013 La Grieta dealt with another death in their single Último Polvo: Carlos Artiach who was Mattin’s father and the stepfather of Txema Solano who also took part in the recording playing double bass.

Complementing this material already published, we also present 2015, an unpublished EP coming out of a punctual collaboration with members of Gringo (another ex-Inte Domine, Pablo Jaén and former bassist Txumi). Recorded in 2015, it is an homage to the great Guadeloupe musician Gerard Lockel and features the amazing saxophonist Jean-Luc Guionnet.

La Grieta makes dilapidated and noisy songs in order to deal with a deranged reality which often hits you with events too diffícult to process. Dark post-punk ad nauseam with filth, like society itself.
